18th March, BM, Mumbai, afternoon slot 3 panelists, 1 lady
Xat - 99.928 Gk - 82 Essay - 2/5 Acads - 95/82/7.35 , Work ex - 8 months in RIL, chemical emgineer
Gd topic - No matter what economic reasons are given, the sole aim is to gain power Gd was Okayish. Lot of deviation from topic. I started (since no one was starting waited for 10 sec) , then went silent for 10 mins and then chipped in 2-3 times. Performance - 4/10
My slot was changed from 15th to 19th to 17th March by xlri. I was last in my panel since I was rescheduled candidate.
Q - why change of slot?
Me - explained
Q - Which IIM calls do you have?
Me-only iim shillong
Q - You graduated from ICT, right ie UDCT? Me - Yes, you are right
Q - What does your father do?
Me - Told
Q - Ok then.. What do you want to become after doing management?
Me - told want to lead an multi national organization(long term goal) and need an MBA to first gain requisite skills and knowledge. Told what xlri would provide and something more along that lines. Was a generic answer
Q - explain your work in ril?
Me- explained. Went for around 10 min
Q- You are chemical engineer.. So tell me what is auto ignition temperature. Explain me in layman terms what would happen when naphtha auto ignites.
Q - Let me give you an hypothetical scenario. Suppose I say that 50% ppl coming for interviews are from RIL and TCS, what can be the reasons for this?.
Me - Gave 4 reasons 1. They are mass recruiter. Since lot of just graduated employees compared to other companies, their proportion would be higher. 2. Stagnant growth. Jump in career so mba 3. Exploring new opportunities. Mismatch between their work they are doing and what they actually wish to do 4. Peer pressure. Seeing lot of their friends going for mba, they too try for it. This discussion too was quite long. 5 min around.. In between I said ril doesn't hire from IT or comp science from the colleges
Q - why don't they hire from IT or CS? Me - Not their main area.. They are into petrochemicals, refinery, telecom and retail. So they don't hire from cs or IT colleges. I think they hire CS and IT ppl who already have work ex.
Q - speaking about telecom, Reliance launched Jio. Suppose you are a critic. Criticize jio.
Me - network problems, slower Internet in many places. Free services went on for 6 months instead of 3. Not good thing for competitors. Main thing I see is that it is trying to create a monopoly in the market. If it succeeds, let's say in 2-3 years, then it will have major market share and they would be free to increase prices since there would be no competition and it may do so for gaining more profits.
Q - What would you advice to jio then?
Me - Improve your services first. Stick to what you have said ie provide good services in whole country including very rural areas. Don't go for high profit making once market share increases a lot. Profit margins should not be too high
Q - what do you think should be profit margin of jio?
Me - depends on initial investment and time to recover that. Generally 20-30% would be decent profit margin
Q - what is payback period? How to calculate that? What are fixed and variable charges in this case?
Me - explained and told payback should be around 5-10 years.
Then comes the problem
Q - You started Gd but lost steam after that. What was the problem
Me - deviation from the topic.. Tried once to bring it back but couldn't
Q - So if don't like something, do you boycott it in real life too? Did your coaching institute say that boycott the gd if you don't like it? They tried to stess me.
Me - said no.. Can give you real life examples too.. today I couldn't drive the gd.. I could have done better today.
Q - did the same thing happen in hrm gd too? Are you like that only?
Me - no.. Hrm gd was good. Was productive and I did well there.
Q - ok.. How would you rate your this interview vs hrm interview? Which was better and why? Said choose only 1 of them
Me - I said both were equally good. Both went into different directions.. Hrm was based only on questionnaire. I could express myself decently in both the interviews, so both were equal.
Panelists- we are done.. Thank you
I feel I wasn't that good during interview. Felt that I couldn't create an impact on them or impressed them as I couldn't see on their faces. And one of panelists was feeling sleepy in between the pi. plus my gd according to them was bad.

CD was a caselet where a small company that sells some healthcare products. There are 3 sales folks in this company, they came up with requirement to have laptops made available to them post approval granted by owner. Now we as a group had to decide whether it is justified or not and accordingly convince the owner?
I came up with 4-5 new points every time I pitched in and fortunately there was no fish market. Everyone got decent chance to speak.
For the PI, I was the 10th one in my group. They were taking around 15 mins per candidate. There were 3 panelists (2 females and 1 male probably all of them in their mid 40s . It went like this:
P1: So Gunisha , you got very unique name. What does it means?
Me: Explained them well, I used this Hindi word ""Gunn"" or one who possess qualities
P1: So tell me what are the ""Gunns"" you have
Me: Spoke all of my strengths
P2: So tell me why there is a ""six"" in ""six sigma""
PS- This question was shoot when in one of my strengths I mentioned that I'm six sigma trained apart from my IT roles and responsibilities and completed two six sigma projects in green
Me: Explained them well since I was knowing it(USP :p). Fortunately I felt lucky to have professor in panel who knows about it.
P2: Give me a real world example of six sigma?
Me: (Luckily one example clicked to me) I said well let's take an example of Pizza delivery. If my process says it has to be delivered in 30 min then any variation would be counted as defect. This can be solved through six sigma
(All professors sitting nodded)
P3: So Gunisha, you mentioned that you were guest RJ at 93.5 RedFM? How did you get selected ? What did you do there ? Could you speak about NMIMS CDPI process being an RJ?
Me: Spoke about how I got selected and we played a todka game . Told them complete process being an RJ , starting with "" Superhits 93.5 par me hu Gunisha aapke saath and (suddenly I remembered that I'm speaking in Hindi :p) so I jumped back to English. Was falling short of words but could pull it off
P3: So what is your todka for cracking an interview
Me: (Pause for 2-3 sec)Well according to me, 2 todkas which I believe for cracking an interview are- 1. Just be confident 2. Be yourself
P2: So tell me about your work ? Why MBA ?
Me: Well rehearsed questions
P3: You may always have inter department movements in your company so why MBA?
Me: Explained her that my learning would be industry specific. MBA will give me broader base of exposure
P2: What do you do after office hours?
Me: Spoke about my interest in social service, being master of ceremonies and accessing quora
(P2 and P3 looked at each other and passed a smile)
P3:Whose your inspiration and why?
Me- Spoke about a friend who lost his leg in an accident. Didn't give up, played in Indian international cricket team for diabled and also a Limca book record holder for droving motorcycle for 5331 kms in 17 days)
( READ this STORY HERE!)
P3: What is the difference between Trump policies and Obama policies?
Me: Spoke only one point - Trump is being more of protectionist (anti-globalization) and Obama favours more of globalization
P3: Okay Gunisha, it was nice meeting you. You may leave now, thank you!
Me: Pleasure to meet you all . Thank you!
Overall, a very good experience. Thanks to Mudit sir for boosting me up all the time. I still remember how badly I fumbled in my first mock interview.
""Alls well that ends well""- NMIMS MBA core converted with 176 Rank :)
CAP-New iim's interview done and dusted
Who r u as a person.
Donald trump ,is he capable, everything abut him.
What r the cultural places in rajasthan in jaipur.
What is padmavati.History of padmavati.
Tamil Nadu politics,chief minister.
How is polo played-had ni fcking idea of rules.
No of cultural districts in rajasthan.
Famous places in udaipur- I don't Know why cause I am from jaipur.
Why mba- grilled me.
Also u will invest 11 lakh in fees .instead put it in bank.I said it's a bad financial choise.
AND THen they grilled on mutual funds.
At last-Genuine advice to me by them-please join.the companies u r placed in .
1. CT- should public services like transportion be left driven by market forces?
Was against the motion. Wrote about dmrc, odd even rule, inter state transport, construction of bridges, underpass and flyovers.i thought topic is constraint to transportation so stuck to that. Many candidates involved other public services like public toilets, healthcare etc. Overall decent writeup.
2. GE- you are from syria. Your life is at risk. Will you escape or not? If yes, how will you do that? Depict using sketched, flowchart etc.
A unique exercise in all. Had fun too. Dynamics of the group kept on changing from time to time. Try not to dominate.act as a team player and go along with the group.
PI- extended hands for a hand shake. Rejected and asked me to sit. Asked about work ex. Why mba, why marketing, why imt. What you want to do in life. Apart from the profile form what extra curricular you are doing. Told them about gym and upgrading myself with world and national affairs. Asked about a recent case going in TN. Told them that sasikala was convicted for 4 years. They asked why. Told them abt dispropotionate assets that jailalitha and sasikala were having. They asked why do they have these assets? I told them.they have the power in hand but their salaries are less. For eg. President has 1.5 lakh pm only. So corrupt politicians take advantage of these powers. At last they asked about family.
Overall good experience as a first bschool call.
PS: Got loads of confidence after clearing daimler AG interview last week.
Next stop: iit kgp.
WAT topic: 'India's engagement in South Asia: The way forward.'
Very technical topic. Wrote about how we need it in order to reduce China's stronghold in Asia. Then how in the era of deglobalization, we can explore into the available market in the developed countries like Singapore and try to secure investments from there.
CD topic: Tata-Mistry case. The group was bad. No one spoke sense. Will lose points as a group overall. Although I tried to pitch in with valid points, I couldn't capitalize simply because there was no one to back me up.
PI: Proper stress interview. Ended in 7 mins. Questions were being shot one after the other. Felt like they had already made up their minds to not select me, probably because of my age or idk. They were uninterested since the beginning. One of them was sleeping, the other was fiddling with his phone. Only one of them was looking at me.
The questions asked were:
Tell me something about yourself, what is the revenue model of your startup, who is your target audience. (moving into acads questions now) difference between internal and external audit, what is sentiment analysis, what is market segmentation, what is the difference between normal profit and supernormal profit, what is GDP, what is the difference between GNP and NNP, what are the different methods through which National Income is calculated, what is the formula of the expenditure method, what is service tax, is it direct or indirect, tax what is the difference between the two, what is the difference between the current MODVAT and GST, thank you you may go now.
They made us fill a 26 question form. No questions whatsoever from there. No current affairs questions either.
CT: Developing countries need trades more than aids. (decent 5 points)
GE: you are in a residential college and there is a water wastage. Design a poster campaign for reducing it and creating awareness and also innovative steps to be taken ( decent participation)
PI: 1 male ( pony tail :) ) 1 madam
1- where are you from?
2. What did you study in BTech
3. Why did u leave your Job?
- Told regarding my interest in business development platform and moreover in the construction sector it's pretty difficult for an engineer to get into that section. Have example of my manager but then they countered saying that u are basically attracted to his hifi and glamorous lifestyle. I supported saying that it may be a side factor but said what his work involves and how I wud be very much interested to go into that field.
4. What's your favorite subject?
- answered all questions
5. So you seem to be a very much competent in your technical field so why MBA and why marketing? ( IMT asks for preference during the application)
- was a bit confused as I had just applied for IMT being best in marketing. But again tried compare my boss job with marketing.
6. What your boss's qualities that u admire??
- he gives credit to all his staffs in this way he ensures that everyone takes pride in what one does and ultimately the company is at the gaining point, and also said about his leadership skills and gave a beautiful example
7- so u seem to be impressed by his personality, do u believe that that can be achieved by a formal education in management?
- I agreed and said yes it's highly possible, coz there are a lot of activities and commities and u can explore your options and choose and develop, that will surely help in improving.
8. So how do think u performed in the group exercise?
- said that the topic is too vast.Like there are many ways but being the time constraints I think I added two three valuable suggestions and I believe I was fair and good enough.
WAT - India's performance in Olympics
Decent topic. Wrote about how It could have been better and India need more infrastructure and all.
GD - Does aadhar based system helping unbanked population and rural India?
Gave my views and then piched in two times with relevant points.
PI - 3 panelists
P1- why have u shifted to startup and now to MBA after Engineering??
I - Told how Engineering led me there and how management intrigues me and all
P1- What r ur views on demonetization and Gst?
I - As I mentioned these topics in CV so I was prepared. Gave decent answers.
P2- why you wanna do MBA and work for someone else as manager when u r already running a startup?
I - Told how it will help me grow and how MBA is the way that will help me reach to the top of the ladder.
P3 - As u r interacting with youth on daily basis what are the problems Punjab facing mainly youth?
I - Talked about Education and drug problem.
Then she kept on asking solutions for these mainly drug problem. I answered accordingly.
Overall it was a chilled out interview.
WAT: 'Generation Y is obsessed with luxury goods.' Write 5 points for/against the topic. I wrote for the topic.
GE: We were asked to design the layout of a bank branch on a chart paper. I felt I did well. Made a couple of key suggestions.
PI: Probably luck isn't going my way. Was last (12th) for the interview. Had to wait for 2:30 hours. Same experience as IIFT. Everyone's interview lasted 15-20 mins, mine ended in 8-9 mins. Was apparent that interviewers were bored/tired.
Questions asked - what is your family background, why MBA, then moved straight to acads questions. What is Management Accounting (I said I wanted to take a guess, since I've never studied it, he didn't let me), what is Financial Accounting, what is NPV, difference between COGS and Cost of Sales, difference between Cash Flow and Fund Flow, fundamental difference between direct and indirect taxes, different types of indirect taxes, Income Tax - Direct or Indirect, who collects it, why is Accounting needed, who frames the accounting standards in India, why is it necessary.
After that, they asked me my goal for the next one year. That's about it.
Not as disastrous as IIFT, but can't say anything since IMT this time aren't giving any weightage to CAT/XAT scores. So selection will be solely on the basis of the GE-PI-WAT performance. Could've done a lot of justice to my PI had they asked me questions from my form or from current affairs, like they did with everyone else.
WAT .. 30 mins.. topic: what do you think is the root cause of terrorism and what do you think should be done about it.. fairly simple.. 300 words. The coffee break .. damn those exotic Taj biscuits and select editions of coffee.. oo la la.. Then document verification..They are rigourous in that.. make.sure you get everything as asked.. PI: 3 people.. as far as I could make it, one always asks core technical questions.. one will ask economics finance or marketing depending on ur area of interest.. and one gives you basic mathematical problems to solve. Began with tell me about urself.. then started with the technical .. IC engine.4 stroke 2 stroke.. their diagrams n explanation .. and diesel generator.. magnetic flux and Faraday's law.. basic stuff.. Then the centre guy asked me about demand supply curves.. then I got maths problems from the third guy.. one about finding centroid(Indrajeet sir is laughing somewhere ryt now). And one from partial integration method. Then I am from IITkgp so they asked me about sundar pichai.. his company.. its parent company.. their founders..Then about H1B visa issue.. then competitors of Google.. full form of Yahoo..How do company raise capital.. is better to lend money to a company or invest in it.. and why..? Why are you not preparing for UPSC like many of ur fellow IITians.. ended with what is your assessment of yourself on your risk taking capabilities.. That was all.. Word of advice.. if you have A's and Ex grades.. i.e high grades.. in some subjects of ur undergrad.. be prepared to be grilled.. I have my grades mostly in C's and D's.. so they asked pretty general ones..Others with better grades in certain subjects have been grilled in it for 15 mins str8. The panellist is coming fully educated about topics in engineering too.. so u can't fool them.. they are picking up every word you are saying and are quick to point you out if you are moving in the wrong direction .. Best of Luck.

P1: Okay, so do you have any qs? Me : ( Where the hell did that virus get lab questions from? ) No sir. P1: Thank you shahil, you can go. Me: Thank you sir, hope you all are having a good day ( especially that virus ) The end.
The interview was fairly decent. I was the first one in my Panel. Interview lasted for about 25min. There were 2 Panel members. P1 interviewed for about 15 min and then P2 interviewed. P1: Tell me something about yourself? Me: Gave a very long and rehearsed answer. P1: Something other than what you said? Me: Told him about my strengths. Told him about how self-motivated I was. P1: He then stated according to this Act, Ratan Tata removing Cyrus Mystery is against the law. Will you still justify? Me: Again gave a detailed answer (According to me right decision was taken. It had to be taken at some time considering Tata's legacy, Tata is much bigger than their profits and revenue etc) P1: How Trump's decision would affect IT companies and TCS in particular. Me: Answered. P1: What legislation they are about to pass for H1B visas. Me: Answered. P1: Trump's effect on other countries. Me: Answered. P1: Countries from which immigrants would be banned? Extempore first - 2mins to think, 3 to speak FOR the topic) Interviewer: (As soon as I entered, Hi Abhinav. We've looked at your profile and you seem quite smart. So we expect you to not think ans just start speaking) Me: sir I'll try and be true to that. (Topic - sex education is useless in India. I opened my folder, took out a piece of paper and wrote 4 basic points and said I'm ready, took about a minute) (Spoke about how the word sex was frowned upon in public, so we as a society aren't mature to make use of sex education. Then said we're so ashamed we can't even go and buy a condom without thinking twice. Took example of baba ramdev, that someone spoke that he being a leader and all, feels ashamed if someone talks of sex) . Ended. Interviewer: so, help us understand you. Me: sir, can i give a brief intro for that? He said yes. So i spoke on points i had prepared) Interviewer: what sort of extra curriculars you did ? ( I hadn't mentioned any in the form) Me: sir, extra curriculars for me had always been things which I enjoyed doing and made me happy. So i might not have done things for merit and all, but i always kept myself occupied. Whatever i felt i Should. For instance, i am a bit into gaming. Spoke about playing 8bit games as a kid to ps3 now, as and when i get time out of my schedule. Interviewer: explain the transition from engineering to writing. Me: had prepared it in length. So tolf them. Told them not moving in the flow anymore and all decisions after 2nd year engg. Have been informed ones. Interviewer: what branch in MBA? Me: sir, I haven't decided fully yet, but having worked with various departments, i have a slight incilnaction towards marketing. Interviewer: how do we know you're not moving with the flow now? Me: sir stopped it after 2nd year of engineering. Gave them an example that transition from tech writing to project management wasn't a forced one, but my choice. Interviewer: (i had mentioned about gadgets so in-between another question he asled me if i follow CES) Me: yes sir i do, but this year couldn't follow it in detail, but did follow. It was more about TVs this year. Interviewer: what all gadget you own? Me: currently i use a OnePlus 3. Int: OnePlus 3 or 3T? Me: OnePlus 3. I bought it in August, while 3T was out in oct-Nov. Then said i owned a ps3 as well. I want a smartwatch as well, but not right now. Int: what's your dream gadget? Me: sir, I won't go into what hasn't been invented, but from the current lot. I'll go with a Smartwatch, but not in it's present form. I don't wanna charge my watch every night like my phone. Then tried to show off a bit about my knowledge there. ???? That was it.
PI: First we had an extempore. 2 mins to think and 3 mins to speak. My topic was 'the world would be a better place without modes of transportation'. It was a mandatory rule to speak FOR the topic. After the extempore, the PI happened. No questions relating to acads. The alums were taking the interviews. So the interview revolved mostly around your personality. I was the last one in my group and my interview ended in 10 mins. Overall, a very chilled out affair. On a side note, the campus of SIBM is amazing. Probably the best I've seen till date. The entire process was efficient and the aspirant relations team was very helpful. PS: Bumped into Ajith over there out of nowhere. I told him we all miss his ppts and links. He said he will first focus on converting his calls, and then he will resume his CSR duties.
PI: grilled me about my home town.. dint knw much about it. they knw even the names of my streets. singer from my home town. two acads questions which was not my major too.. dint answer them as well Why MBA in sustainable Management? what will you tell people like Trump about his statement who does not believe in climate change? In all a very stressful interview.. Do know about each and every bit about your school and college .. trustees names .. and the emminent personality from it. Though not a gud experience but learnt a lot. Thanx.
For the PI, I was the 9th one in my group. So I had to wait for 2 hours for my turn. They were taking around 15 mins per candidate. There were 3 panelists. It went like this: P1: So what are your hobbies Bhavya? Me: I am a big Manchester United fan. I am a part of my college debate and dramatics team and I watch movies and TV shows as stress busters. P1: So tell me 12 rules of football. Me: (confused) ..ummm there are 11 players per side.. P2: No no. Tell us 12 things you learnt from football which you can implement in your career. Me: Ohhh. Football is a team game, this that blah blah. I told them 10 things and they finally asked me to stop. ???? (this went on for 3-4 mins. Think they wanted to see how much I could speak. They were smiling all throughout) P2: So what do you do? Me: Told them about my startup and father's business. P3: So what happens to the startup when you're doing your MBA? Me: Told them. P1: So what do you read? Me: I read the articles on my website. Besides that, I read sports autobiographies and catch up on news on my phone. P2: What do you think about Brexit? Me: Told them that the root cause was the British pride and they didn't want to associate themselves with a European Union. Said immigration and loss to economy as the ancillary causes. P3: Looking back at your life, what is the one thing you'll change? Me: Told them that I've learnt the value of money in the past 2-3 years and would cut down on my expenditure if I could go back to my past. Overall, a very good experience. No grilling. No questions about acads.
PI: Describe what you do at office. Told. Panelist: Why are you wasting your time and technical skills doing content writing? Told She: Who coached you and wrote this answer for you? Me: This is not a written answer, this is actually my game plan and I am working on it. Panelist: Asked about my previous company's takeover. Told Panelist: Tell us about the difference between the management of a 5 star restaurant and a dhaba. Me: Talked about how minute details are taken care of at 5 stars, and presentation and healthy food is preference over quantity and at dhabas value for money and quantity is of utmost importance. Didn't know how it works in the background Panelist: Tell us what 3 cyber security features you would incorporate in front end of an application? Me: Talked about biometrics, didn't know anything else They actually attempted to grill me over each and every thing. Was confident and smiling all the time. But still selection is doubtful.
PI : normal question.. intro asked me to draw about what you think about todays process in a cartoonist format Tata 5 products .. compare 3 states which you have lived ? work ex questions ..
